Some of These Days, a musical about the trailblazing life and career of the singer Sophie Tucker, is planned for Off-Broadway soon. It is a period piece that spans four decades of the 1900s (1909-1936). Sophie was one of the most popular U.S. entertainers during the first half of the 20th century due to her powerful comic delivery and risque’ songs. Sophie was quite a star in the vaudeville circuit, where she met and befriended an eclectic group of people, not limited to Al Capone, Josephine Baker, Bill “Bojangles” Robertson & Fanny Brice. It was Sophie’s electric and sometimes sexually explicit production of her songs that earned her the nickname “Last of the Red Hot Mamas.”
